The Star Puzzles

I first got involved well through the 2003 run of 25 puzzles. For 2004 I offered my thoughts for all 12 of the puzzles. In 2005 I've missed the first two weeks but hope to provide some suggestions for all of the remaining puzzles. Oh, and for those that don't already know, the Star newspaper in question is the one based in Malaysia!

The Star Rewards Word Puzzle 2005

The 2005 competition.
Last updated 06/11/2005 - Puzzle 20 answers and comments added. Well, that's it for this time. It's been fun, though hugely fustrating at times, particularly when I got so close in week six. My thanks to Monica for emailing me all the questions and answers and I hope to be back for the next competition, whenever that might be.
Update history.

Although the format has changed a little (i.e. no crossword grid) the basic premise is as before. Each clue has two or more possible / feasible answers, so all I can do is suggest what, in my own personal opinion, is the most likely. One or more question marks indicate answers that, in my opinion, are less likely (but still valid). However, the required answer need not be the "best" answer (whatever that is!) but whatever answer the compiler has chosen, provided it can be reasonably be said to fit the clue.

I'll be updating these pages on a (fairly) regular basis, including the official answers to the puzzles, when known. If the answer appeared in my list it will be highlighted in green, else it will be added in red. I'll also be adding a few comments of my own. My personal target for this competition is that 100% of the time either my first choice or my second choice will be correct, and that at least 60% of my first choices will be correct.
